Iris lovers heart blue. Actually, I think people heart blue. We've been long lost on a quest for true blue in nature, and when we do encounter it, it holds us in deep rapture. Fortunately for iris lovers that rapturous experience storms the garden each spring, laden with ruffles and sassy, audacious flowers. ~ Kelly Norris in A Guide to Bearded Irises: Cultivating the Rainbow

A vigorous grower, Stairway to Heaven produces tall strong stems bearing 8-10 buds. Its perfectly arched near-white standards and round flaring medium blue falls are gifted with wide wave-like ruffles. Don't miss this striking child of Edith Wolford X Breakers.

Say hello to one of our award-winning sky blue Iris, Abiqua Falls. It is a big advance in color, flower form and plant vigor. This clean sapphire blue self has ruffled and twirled petals that give a sense of water in motion, which is how this Iris got its name. Its very vigorous plant growth is both disease resistant and produces eight to nine buds per stalk. Parentage: Cascade Springs X (Rapture In Blue x Oregon Skies).

Sea Power's incredibly surging bubble ruffling and its deep cornflower blue color evoke images of an angry sea responding to Neptune's command. This child of Yaquina Blue X Jazz Me Blue probably has the most lavish ruffled flower form of any blue Iris we know. An added plus is its pronounced sweet fragrance.

The Chicago Cubs World Series victory won the hearts of the nation, with apologies to Cleveland. The Cubs last won in 1908, 12 years before the founding of the American Iris Society, as baseball fans know. Although Cubs Win It has only one of the team colors, blue, it perfectly embodies the irrepressible excitement of that night in October. Cubs Win It s erect white standards are flushed with deeper blue at the base. Wide, elegant, cup-shaped falls are peacock blue lightening at the center, highlighting the orange beards. See in our photo how the rollicking falls ruffle and swirl. Cubs Win It produces strong, well-branched stems, most double-socketed. Get your peanuts, popcorn, iris here! Like Wow X F.X. Schreiner

Sixty years ago Johnny Cash sang in ‘Home of the Blues’ of a place filled with sweetest memories.”  Blues have been a favorite of ours for 60 years and beyond.  We think this beautiful and ruffled apparition pictured is the real deal. For form, proportion, fragrance, purity of color with contrasting beards, and plenty of flowers, Home of the Blues is where you want to be.….There’s that bass guitar again…

Seedling # 2017-1

This gem bespeaks Abundance!  There is a fullness, a healthy bursting forth, in this heavily ruffled,  sky blue self.  Standards are sky blue and the falls are slightly lighter in the center. The white beards are tipped gold.  This tall and fragrant knockout is pictured here.

Light wisteria blue-violet standards sharply contrast the deep hyacinth blue-violet falls in this floriferous bitone. It often produces two to three stems per plant early in the bloom season and then tends to bloom again in the fall. This child of Titan's Glory combines the vigorous growth habits and flower size of its parent with its own distinctive color pattern.

Chinook Winds' tall stems exhibit an exuberance (8-10 double-socketed buds) of bloom. Its light silvery blue flowers have a round ruffled form with light lacing. This child of Honky Tonk Blues enjoys a slight spicy fragrance.

Adoregon's exquisite ruffled and flared form is exhibited in our photo. The color of its lilac blue standards intensifies at their bases. Lavish ruffles and prominent melon tipped beards accent the flared silvery blue falls. A slight sweet fragrance enhances its appeal.

This fresh light blue self's ruffled petals seem to cascade at random. In the center of each fresh light blue fall is a signal patch of white, highlighting the flowers white beards. The three main branches and two spurs often produce up to 14 flowers! Another bonus of this lovely blue Iris is the tendency to bloom again in the fall.

Ya gotta see it.  Some Iris are far more impressive in person, regardless of the photograph. Such is the case with Café Bleu. Quickly getting the attention of Iris fanciers, this blue reverse amoena flaunts admirable upright and open form. The lighter blue falls are very broad and ruffle continuously. Reblooming and slightly fragrant.

The dark brooding tones of this neglecta cast a mysterious haunting ambiance. Pale moody blue standards perfectly complement the dark midnight black falls. Don't miss out on this spellbinder. It's the best new origination in its class and a natural conversation piece in the garden.

This very popular blue amoena is a child of old favorite Glistening Icicle. Mariposa Skies' large flowers have very pale blue standards flushed with deep blue-violet at the midribs. Its medium blue-violet falls lighten at their margins, highlighted by gentle ruffling. See this rebloomer with a deliciously sweet scent.

The 2015 Dyke's Medal winner!  Very tall stems give this red, white and blue Iris a dominating presence. Its bluish white standards contrast the marbled blue-violet of its falls. A white spot at the centers of the falls, similar to that of its parent, Last Laugh, heightens the effect of the vivid red beards.

Highly recognized for its dependable rebloom, this light blue bitone has quickly risen to prominence. The creamy white beards blend into the prominent white spots on the falls. Single-socketed buds yield only 5-6 sweet, fragrant blooms per stalk.

This dark-topped sky blue offering hits all the high notes with its magnificent display. Dark blue beards are conspicuous on the expansive milky blue falls. Fabulous growth and bloom habit further distinguish this fragrant melody.

This offspring of our azure blue Oregon Skies is evocative of the waters off our Oregon coastline. Open Ocean’s gently pleated petals are saturated in soft marine blue. Yellow-tipped beards and slight veining on the falls add some necessary tension. Branches bearing 8 buds per stem display this classically formed hybrid.  As we are universally drawn to the ocean, you also will be - to the cerulean blue color of our Open Ocean.

This impervious creation is one of our most innovative amoena introductions. Note the broad 1 1/4 band of fresh ultramarine blue which gently washes the edges of the spotless snowy white falls. Add pristine white standards with glowing yellow beards and we have perfection indeed. This pattern amazingly does not trace its ancestry to plicata breeding. Don't miss out! Be the first to grace your garden with our stunning achievement.

See in our photo the eye-catching chartreuse yellow starburst, and how it permeates the wisteria purple-wash falls. A tawny, sinuous edging encircles broad falls on this statuesque bicolor. Exuberant well-formed standards are the same color as the starburst. Fragrant and well-branched with plenty of buds, Sunny Glitter displays shining evidence of its enduring ancestor – Jazz Solo

This aptly named novel plicata presents us with its bloom in the spring and then again in the fall. Autumn Circus has wildly distinctive blue-violet plicata markings overlaying its clean white petals. Its ruffled and flared form lends to the excitement created by this remarkable coloration.

This medium azure blue self, with a luminous white spot by the beard, is a child of our perennial favorite - Captain's Joy. Its hallmarks are excellent vigorous bloom habit (9-11 buds per stalk), strong ramrod stiff stems and bouncy ruffled flower form.

This diadem will absolutely dazzle you with its stunning contrast of color magic. Note how the crystalline white ground color is precisely stitched with a 1/4 to 1/2 inch plicata edge of dusky cyanine blue-violet. Each well-branched stalk sports 7 to 9 large six-inch flowers with a slight ruffle on their edges. Add the crowning touch of sparkling diamond-like beards tipped lemon yellow and we have perfection indeed. Named to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the world-renowned Presby Memorial Iris Gardens in Montclair, New Jersey.

Collected in Turkey in the late 1800s, Amas was one of the first tetraploid Iris to be widely circulated. This dark blue-violet bitone was one of the most significant Iris of its time and was used extensively in early Iris breeding.

Lilac plicata stitching graces the gently ruffled edges of these broad white petals. Beauty and serenity emanate from this minimalist interpretation of the plicata pattern. In addition to its color, Hemstitched has inherited the reblooming habit of its notable parent, Earl of Essex.

This early blooming beauty presents the ultimate in contrast; dark blue-violet and white in a plicata pattern. The standards are intensely shaded with just a flash of white at the midribs. The pure white falls are rimmed with a precise 1/2 inch blue-violet stitching. Bloom habit is prolific with 8-12 double-and triple-socketed buds per stalk.

Clear sky blue self, superb ruffled form.

Welcome to the party! This debutante is an intense blue self that is highlighted by yellow-white beards. The proud parents, Star Sailor and Captain's Joy, are thrilled with her absolutely perfect performance. Note how the large 6 X 4 inch flowers have bouncy ruffles and superb flower form. In addition, four-branched stems with double and triple-socketed buds consistently display a panorama of 11 to 14 blooms.

Pale blue-violet with contrasting blue-black beards, classically tailored form.
